International Library Symbol

International symbol for Public Libraries - person holding a book

Did you know that the internationally recognized public library symbol was created here at the Western Maryland Regional Library!

First designed in 1978 for the libraries of Western Maryland, this iconic symbol appeared in the 1982 American Library Association publication A Sign System for Libraries, co-authored by the regional library's Mary S. Mallery and Ralph E. DeVore.

Welcome to our redesigned website! 

We're proud to feature our updated website utilizing Drupal 10 with W3.CSS technology.  W3.CSS is a free open source CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) framework that uses standard CSS only (with minimal JavaScript). It provides equality for all browsers (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari, and Opera) on all devices (desktop, laptop, tablet, and mobile).
